What is the PTSA doing this year?

While this year looks very different, there is still a tremendous amount of work Bell PTSA is doing to

(1) Advocate for our students and teachers

(2) Provide enrichment learning opportunities

(3) Support our Bell families in-need

(4) Connect our community during this unique time.

Below are just a few examples of the work we’re doing:

Advocacy - We recently attended WSPTA’s Legislative Assembly and identified our top five legislative priorities to support the work we will be doing during Washington State’s Legislative Session. We also have Cassandra Sage from the LWSD School Board joining us at our next general membership meeting on Thursday, November 12th at 7pm (Zoom linkin Bulldog Blast), so we can engage directly with the leaders of our district to advocate for our students.

Enrichment Opportunities - Bell PTSA has approved funding for art lessons with Mrs. Lustgarten this year. The first lesson was done during the Harvest Festival on Oct. 30th. The lessons were fabulous!

Supporting Bell Families-in-Need - We launched a food drive, which enabled us to make food bags for 30 Bell families-in-need for multiple weeks. We also work with the Lake Washington Schools foundation to provide Pantry Packs to Bell families in-need every week. We use PTSA funds to supplement these pantry packs with fresh produce. We also work with the school counselor to identify needs in our community (e.g., clothing, shoes, etc) and work to gather these items via donations (sign-up here).

Connecting the Community - While this is more challenging during these times, we are trying to find creative ways to keep us all connected. We recently did a Spooktacular Pumpkin Decorating Contest and we worked with the school to have Mrs. Lustgarten create an art lesson for the Harvest Celebration.

Supporting Bell Families in Need

The PTSA is working closely with the school counselor to advocate for Bell families who need support during these challenging times. We have a number of families who need help with obtaining groceries, clothing, headsets for computers, etc. Throughout the year, we will continue to update this list of needs.
